A large group of excellent support staff co-ordinate the practice activities. Commercial management is the responsibility of Mr David Mulligan. Mrs Felma Bell and Mrs Sharon Lees are the practice managers in Cookstown while Miss Janine Hadden and Miss Sharon Hazelton share the role in Dungannon.

Such a large number of veterinarians provide a broad level of expertise covering companion animals, cattle, horse sheep, pigs and poultry. Although all vets are trained to cope with all species, each vet has their own area of specialist interest and knowledge, which they concentrate on and develop within the practice. There is a dedicated companion animal vet situated in each practice.

The practice operates as two self-contained units that can co-operate and share resources and veterinarians as the workload dictates. As well as the normal emergency (fire-brigade) veterinary services to farms in a large area, the practice carries out many routine visits; advising on farm health planning, biosecurity, quality assurance schemes and cattle herd fertility. Tuberculin testing and pre export Brucella testing are also carried out for our clients. A large proportion of our work concentrates on planning preventative medicine programmes to be implemented on farms. The practice also co-ordinates and carries out a large amount of export certificates for live animals of all species, semen and embryos and poultry.

Recently the practice has diversified into specialist poultry work providing a company veterinarian, Miss Margaret Hardy M.R.C.V.S. for a large integrated poultry meat company. We also look after most of the independent commercial layers in Northern Ireland. We have a dedicated laboratory for culture and sensitivity of pathogens, and Post Mortem work which offers our clients rapid results.

Mr John Grant M.R.C.V.S. has a special interest for many years in the pig industry. This area of the practice has recently been expanded and, due to its size Mr Denis Thompson is now the dedicated manager of this area.

In conclusion Parklands Veterinary Practice provides a vast range of quality services to companion animals, the farming world and associated industries.
